Can I pursue a Master’s in Nursing program if I don’t have a BSN?

While many MSN programs do require that students have a BSN prior to applying, there are some pre-licensure master’s programs. In Georgia, these are offered by Augusta University and Emory.

Requirements for admission into the CNL program include:

  • Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited school in any area other than nursing.
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • The following course pre-requisites:
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary education.
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae.

Requirements for admission into the MSN program include:

  • Non-nursing bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 based on the last 60 credit hours of college coursework, including graduate coursework, attempted and accepted.
  • A minimum science GPA of 3.0 is also required. The science GPA is based on the most recent grade earned in the last 15 years in the courses listed below. Grades earned in these courses more than 15 years ago will require the courses to be retaken or reviewed for acceptance.

The requirements for all 3 Entry-Level Emory Masters of Nursing Programs are the same but the programs are different themselves so here is a quick summary of each we could add:

The Master of Nursing (Pre-licensure program) program is a full-time, campus-based program that allows students to earn a master’s in nursing degree in 15 months. This program is for students wanting to work as an RN, and is the first step in your nursing education.

Emory’s Master of Nursing (MN) Spring Start program is a 15-month, full-time, campus-based program designed for second-degree students. The MN program applies a master’s level approach to the second-degree nursing education. It has a focus in leadership and is a great choice for students wishing to serve in leadership roles within healthcare. This program offers three career pathways designed for our student’s needs.

This program provides a fast track from no nursing experience to becoming an advanced practice nurse. Students will earn a Master of Nursing in 15 months that will allow them to be licensed as Registered Nurses, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing that will allow them to license as nurse practitioners. This program is designed for students with bachelor’s degrees in other disciplines.
