Application Process

PTCAS is the centralized application service used to apply to most accredited Physical Therapy programs.

What is the overall application time-line for applying to PT school?

Most PT programs begin during the Summer, while others begin in the Fall. It is important to note that PTCAS application cycles open July 1st each year, and it is strongly recommended that you submit your application as early as possible as most programs admit students on a rolling basis. Please be aware that most schools require that the GRE be taken and pre-requisites met before an application is submitted.

What is Early Decision for PT applications?

The Early Decision program is a binding option for applicants who have decided that a particular PT program is their first choice and that they will enroll if accepted. As an Early Decision applicant, you can apply to only one PTCAS program until a decision on your application has been made by your Early Decision program. If an offer is extended from this program, you are required to accept this offer and will not be able to apply to any additional PTCAS programs. The Early Decision deadline is typically in mid-August, so students must complete their PTCAS applications quite early to be eligible for this process; however, they should expect to be notified about their early decision acceptance by mid-September. Please note that many programs have specific requirements for students to be eligible to apply as an Early Decision applicant. Please review each program’s PTCAS profile page to ensure you meet the standards to apply Early Decision if interested.
