This program is a collaboration between the Office of Global Engagement and the Pre-Professional Advising Office.
The Health in Argentina Program, located in the city of Mendoza, is intended for UGA students who plan to pursue careers in healthcare and are actively working toward that goal. While on the program, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the Argentine healthcare system and how it differs from the healthcare system in the United States through guest lectures, tours of public and private healthcare facilities, and structured shadowing opportunities with clinicians. BIOL 4910 (3 credit hours) is offered as part of this program.

Through immersive, ethically guided experiences, students will explore how social, cultural, economic, and policy factors shape healthcare delivery in Argentina. The program emphasizes observation, reflection, and cross-cultural learning rather than direct patient care.
The objective of this program is to help pre-health students to:
- gain perspective on international healthcare systems
- grow in cultural sensitivity and intercultural competency
- gain clinical and professional exposure in a different cultural context
- reflect on effective ways to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- broaden their undergraduate experience through meaningful professional and personal interactions
- gain significant experience in the world beyond the classroom
- grow in flexibility, cooperation, and self-reliance
- become more well-rounded and competitive applicants for professional graduate healthcare programs
This program offers UGA students an ethical, healthcare-centered shadowing experience that adheres to AAMC ethics guidelines, emphasizing respectful engagement, cultural humility, and professional responsibility.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Students will live with Argentinian families for the duration of the program. Breakfast and dinner will be part of the homestay experience.
- Spanish language knowledge is not necessary to participate in this program. Professional interpreters will be present at all guest lectures, shadowing locations, and academic visits.
- Program participants will be required to attend pre-departure orientations and academic meetings in the spring semester.
